Hamsters can be solitary or social animals.
Solitary hamsters do not get on very well with their counterparts. This makes them perfect to be kept on their own in a home.
Very often, young animals less than 4 weeks old are put together.
As soon as the animals reach sexual maturity it is very difficult to put them together, as this often leads to fights which are sometimes fatal.
With social breeds, this isn't the case at all. These breeds can be kept perfectly well in pairs or even trios.
